Daughter and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Don't let the smile fool you. This has NOT been a good day for Daughter. As you can see, she got her braces today. And the palatal expander, which is giving her a lot of trouble. She's having a hard time swallowing, thus eating, and also talking with the new appliance in the roof of her mouth. She has a lot of spit in her mouth. Within an hour of getting the braces on her teeth, three of the bottom brackets popped off so we had to go back in and have those put back on and get a new bottom wire. Now the braces are making her mouth sore. She's frustrated. I'm frustrated. There have been tears (from both of us!). It has been a rough day.

I know that in a couple of days things will get better, and I keep telling her that (so it better be true, dammit!). It's just breaking my heart to see her go thru this. I'd rather just do it for her. Is that an option?

I wish it were an option. So people, who obviously aren't mothers, said that they must go through these things & learn how to come out stronger on the other side. I say what's the point of giving birth to them if we can't take the pain, sadness, awful things away from them. But,that's what our arms, soft murmurs, & heart full of love do for them.

And, of course, thing will be much better this time next week. If this is the worst thing she has to deal with, she will have a lucky life indeed.

Oh that poor thing. I don't know that I could ever handle that expander. The little girl down the road has one and I swear I just gag looking at it.

Big hugs to your daughter from Michigan!

Poor baby. None of mine have braces, not that they don't need them, but because they're expensive. I always wished my parents had put me in braces. I know it's painful, but in the long run, she'll be glad.

oh what a bummer. I'm sure it will be easier and she will be SO MUCH HAPPIER when shes an adult with nice straight teeth. Do you KNOW how many college students I have who say their number one turn off is "crazy lookin teeth"?!?

I had braces in Jr.High and I remember the first few day being downright miserable. (or the day after I got them tightened) If I remember correctly, I covered my braces with wax for the first couple of days and only ate things I could sip with a straw! It does get better, and the end result is worth it!

Thanks for coming by my blog...about bowling. Both my parents bowled growing up. (It's still the only sport my mom can beat grown athletic men in!) My dad was in a weekly league. From what he says he had the scores necessary to take it to the next level. He talks about one game at the end of the season where he was on track to bowl a perfect game, but his nerves got to him and he blew it in the last frame! He just decided it wasn't worth the time and effort it would take to do it. He liked it well enough as a hobby. Take care, Julie

Oh the poor girl. And having to go back in so soon. I am sure she is frustrated and uncomfortable. I hope it gets better soon. Give her a hug for me. That is the mothering part that sucks, when you cannot do a thing to ease their pains.
The dentist wants to put my daughter in the invisiline braces(something like that). Not sure what we're going to do.

I had one of those expanders, and it all gets better. The beginning is the roughest. What a big smile for a bad day. I'm all crabby and haggard on my bad days.

it does get better.. I had one of those things too, had to turn it with a key of sorts... it sucked, but it'll be worth it! She'll thank you for in later!

I feel for her *hugs* I myself never had braces, but I knew several people who did and they had a rough time at the beginning. It will get better in time. Just wait until they come off and she has an even more gorgeous smile.

Oh, girls! I am so very sorry... It's 2 days past this post... I am hoping things have taken a turn for the better. Just tell her while it's hard now, she is going to be over the moon when all this is done when those teeth are perfect! Coming from a gal who could have used braces 16 years ago, she'll love have nice teeth sooner than later!

If it won't freak her out, give her a hug from me :) Or maybe have her give YOU a hug from me. or something :)
