Heartbroken

As thrilled as I was today that Big Brown won the Kentucky Derby, I was even more crushed when second place finisher Eight Belles - the only filly in the race - fell after the finish, breaking both her front legs, and had to be put down right there on the track. I bawled. She was beautiful, she was strong, and she ran with the big boys. How tragic that it was literally the race of her life.

A very sad day, indeed. Horse racing can be so dangerous for horses. They are too beautiful for that fate. :*(

Oh my gosh - I hadn't heard of this! It's probably a very good thing I didn't see it, I'd still be bawling.

I saw that...it was horrible. Now days it seems you can't watch a horse race without a horse breaking a leg. It was mind blowing that she actually finished the race, THEN broke them. Broke my heart too.

We were watching too, and it was horrible. I was so upset, and stunned that it all happened so quick. I can't imagine how the owners, trainer, jockey, etc feel after running that awesome race in the Derby, and then to lose her so fast. Horribly tragic.

I've always had mixed feelings about horse racing...this tragedy just pushes me more to be against it. Very upsetting :(
