While the rest of the nation has pretty much forgotten about
Hurricane Ike, things are still in disarray around here. Yes, we are cleaning up, repairing, rebuilding.....but it all takes time. Time is not something a lot of people have these days; it seems to be spent up with jobs or school or family or chores or LIFE. But this past weekend, Daughter and her youth group from church gave a whole day of their time to work with
C.O.R.E. cleaning up hurricane debris from a hard-hit neighborhood. And the people they helped felt great - but the kids? They felt even better.
Reaching out in love,
Giving the gift that's priceless:
The gift of one's self.
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10**This is for the "Gift" prompt at One Single Impression this week - be sure to stop by there to see all the wonderful poetry!

Hey, I didn't forget. Having grown up in tornado alley, I know how fast a town can disappear, and how long it takes to bring it back.
Tell your daughter for me please, that I am proud of her and her group.
A very nice haiku.
It must feel like everyone just forgets. My daughter spent a week this summer in LA helping and was amazed at what devastation is still there. Thanks for reminding us - we all need to keep this in the front of our minds.
On a serious note, a beautiful act beautifully told.
On a not-serious note, I was stumped regarding Debbie's comment, trying to figure out what happened in Los Angeles. And then I felt really stupid. Just thought I'd share my stupidity.
Priceless indeed.
Go to my blog and grab the pic. I'm BOO-ing you.
We do try not to forget, and fortunately good souls like you remind us. We do what we can where we can, and trust that others will 'hold the lamp up for us' while we rest, as we do for them. Godspped to all of you there. Lovely poem and photo.
A reminder that simple acts are often the greatest gifts, that helping others helps us.
Such a beautiful act of selflessness!
My parent's house in Crystal Beach is miraculously still there. But without electricity or water, they still aren't back and not sure if they'll even be there by Christmas.
Remembering everyone and keeping them in my prayers!
What good qualities you are passing on to your children.
Your haiku and post are most timely and of a generous nature - very nice!
That is precoius. Thank God for these kids willing to make the gift!
i'm sending you clean-up love from coastal NC...
your haiku is a perfect expression of 'gift'...
LOVE the Haiku and LOVE what your daughter and her youth group did!
