Absolutely absurd. Just goes to show you it's not about the people, it's about the viewers they can bring in.
I guess in my naive little mind I always thought the people in need asked the show for help and that ABC helped out of the goodness of their hearts, which does make for good TV. I had no idea they went out searching for people with certain afflictions!
"We're so sorry your husband died when a car fell on him and you have no money to repair your half-burned-down house, but we're looking for people with skin cancer right now."
