Tonight was to be a big night - the Annual Miss America Party! Every year Bubba's Mom and I, along with our closest beauty queen friends, gather with our crowns on to eat, drink, be silly, and watch the Miss America pageant on TV. But alas, this year I am sick. And no one wants my germs. And I feel like ca-ca. So no party.
Bubba's Mom made a big pot of homemade soup tonight, so I went to her house, ate soup, curled up on her couch with my crown and sweats on, and watched the pageant. There's nothing like having your mama when you're sick, is there?
I must say, the pageant was much better than last year. Miss America has changed so much over the years - some of the changes good, some not. We miss the days of a September crowning in Atlantic City, of Bert Parks singing "There she is....." But we still got to see the swimwear, the beautiful evening gowns, and the always entertaining talent competition (our favorite part!). They still answered relevant interview questions, altho not much was said about their platforms. In the end Miss Indiana was crowned Miss America 2009, and we were good with that. They even played a recording of Bert Parks singing that famous song as she walked the runway. But we missed Katie Lady and D... - we'll do it next year, girls! Keep those crowns polished!

It's so weird that the pageant was moved from Sept. to Jan. I wonder why?
Sorry to hear that you're feeling under the weather :( Get plenty of rest and feel better soon!
It was a pretty interesting program. Odd choice for a host, don't you think?
Mom, homemade soup, & Miss America. Sounds like a lovely evening even if it wasn't the one you had planned.
I'm curios. Does anyone outside of the south have Miss America parties? I've only ever heard of southerners doing it and it is so common here. And who let some girl from outside the south win? Just saying.
Yeah, and who let the Virgin Islands have a contestant? They're not a state!
:) I love that song. :)
I was in a couple of pageants as Miss Texas, so my grandfather used to sing it whenever I entered the room.
Ah, the good ol' days...
What a fun thing to do with the gals! I'm coming next year. Hope you feel better.
You better?
How did I know you'd be watching this? I even told John you would be. What I didn't imagine is that even sick you would be there, hehe. Bubba's Mom is indeed a great mom. And I hear she has a petty amazing little girl. xoxo
I totally missed it. How the hey-hoo did that happen??? Sigh... How are you feeling? Better? Are there enough question marks in this comment????????
