- Yesterday morning when I took the kids to school it was just below 40 degrees and there was frost on the rooftops. When I picked them up in the afternoon, it was 70 degrees. Today we topped 80. Tomorrow the high isn't supposed to get out of the 50's. Wacky Texas weather!
- A flyer left on my door: "Make your neighbors jealous! Let us hang your Christmas lights!" Is this truly the holiday spirit??
- As I loaded groceries into the back of my car today, I noticed a little girl about 3 years old crouched next to the car parked to my right - she was peeing. When she finished her puddle, she pulled up her panties and got back into the parked car. I'm wondering why her mother couldn't have just taken her into the store??
- Listening to Christmas music on the radio the other day, I heard a song, "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, Only a hippopotamus will do...." Has anyone ever heard this song before? Who comes up with this stuff?
- Our small group at church is collecting food for donation to a place in Houston that is a homeless shelter for abused women and children; they offer food, clothing and shelter as well as rehabilitation. It is basically a place of hope and renewal for many in need - they show people what the love of Christ is and it is an amazing place. A Christmas meal consists of certain items on a list, which we bag together and hand out with a turkey; I picked up the items when I grocery shopped today. When I got home I added up the cost of them - just over $7 (not including the turkey - those are bought separately). Seven. Dollars. I can certainly feed several families for that. It doesn't cost that much to make a difference in someone's life - please consider giving of yourself this holiday season.

I can't decide which is my favorite: the hippo for Christmas or the little girl peeing. Hilarious!
However, not to rub it in, I don't miss Houston weather. Here's it's just cold during the day and colder at night right now. Perfect for Christmas!
Not to mention, the cost of a new toy for a child in need doesn't have to cost a lot either. We are collecting toys and then will go to a police station to wrap them for the kids.
I have never heard that song before. Weird song. I don't think I'd want a hippo.
Um, I guess the mom didn't give the little girl anything to wipe hersefl? Ick.
My favorite Christmas song ever is the hippo song! I even got a Hallmark Christmas ornament that sings it and shows Santa trying to shove a Hippo down a chimney!
My post tomorrow touches your last thought...teaching the boys to give this season.
I have heard that song. The other day I heard one about Santas being everywhere (set to "Here Comes Santa Claus").
Shame on the peeing child's mother. Shame on the light hanging people. Yea for donating to anything. People are in even more need this year.
Um, you were at Walmart buying groceries, weren't you?
the hippopotamus song is my son;'s favorite right now. If you go to You Tube, there is a really cute cartoon video to it that Aaron asks for every day.
Maybe the hippopotamus is to make everyone else jealous. Keeping with the new spirit and all.
Making your neighbor jealous for Christmas ... that is a sad commentary. But on a bright note, it's cool that it only takes $7 to help supply a Christmas meal!
Thanks for dropping by my blog and for your kind words.
Christmas is all about the jealousy, right?
$7. Each of my kids could easily do that. And will. Santa comes and picks up toys at our church in another week or so. Plus, we need to donate for the Abused Women's Shelter tree at school. That's what Christmas is really all about, right?
I gotta know where the little girl was peeing in the parking lot. That is disgusting! My daughter was so much of a priss, she would never have done that, and I certainly wouldn't have let her anyway. In fact, I doubt my son would have done that, either. Anyway... $7. Incredible. We're collecting at church and school, food, not money.
The weather is crazy this time of year. It's no wonder we get sick!
This was a great post.
I was NOT at Wal-Mart - I was at Kroger!! On El Camino!
NO WAY!!! I would have SWORN the parking-lot pee pee was at Wally-world on the freeway. Yikes, now I'm going to have to watch where I park at that Kroger.
