As You Like It

Last night was the opening night of Daughter's first drama performance in high school - Shakespeare's As You Like It. Only four freshmen made the cast - the rest is upper classmen. Daughter didn't get a speaking part this time, but she plays both a villager and a forester (thus the "dirty face" look in the picture, from living in the Forest of Arden). She does several dances and is on stage quite a bit. Of course, I thought she was the best one!

The story is a confusing one, as are many of Shakespeare's, with numerous plots and sub-plots. But the underlying theme is LOVE, and who doesn't love a good love story? It helped to bring me out of my funk, and to realize that my life really is as I like it. Because even tho "how full of briers is this working day world" (1.3.13), I know that "sweet are the uses of adversity, which, like the toad, ugly and venomous, wears yet a precious jewel in his head; and this our life...finds...good in every thing."(2.1.13)

I went to go see a hs play last night too and stood on the stage of my old high school. First time in 12 years I'd been there. It was amazing

My step-d was involved in drama until this year. Now it's color guard. Your daughter looks so pretty, even with "dirt" on her face! I'm sure she was fabulous. I know where you took that photo!

Of course she'd be the best one. I don't even have to see it to know it. So glad it's helped loosen your funk gunk.

The play was awsome and Chickaboom Granddaughter was too. She never ceases to amaze me with her spirit and willingness to accept new challenges. I love to see the expressions on her face while she is doing "stage business" - she just becomes the character. She has definitely found her niche - can't wait to see what her next role will be. She makes her Nana very proud.
