Why I stay home on Black Friday....

"A man working for discount retailer Wal-Mart was killed on Friday in a
stampede by frenzied shoppers who broke down doors and surged into a Long
Island, New York store, a police spokesman said. The 34-year-old man was at the
entrance of the Valley Stream Wal-Mart store just after it opened at 5 a.m. and
was knocked to the ground, the police report said. The exact cause of death was
still to be determined by a medical examiner. Four shoppers, including a
28-year-old pregnant woman, were also taken to local hospitals for injuries
sustained in the incident, police said."

What has this world come to? Are wide-screen TV's and video gaming systems worth this type of behavior? Worth someone's LIFE? It just makes me sick.

Sickening indeed. Something has to be done about this. It happens every single year. :(

I couldn't believe it. It happened at a WalMart by us two years ago and made national news. No bargain is worth that kind of tragedy.

I am sickened as well. I don't get the behavior at all.

I watched two grown women with children in their shopping carts fist fight one day over who was in the check out line first! Crazy, just crazy! They were hauled out in handcuffs while their children screamed. I do not miss working at wal-mart a bit and I will NEVER go to a black Friday sale. I'd just as soon sleep in and if something's left over later I'll get it, if not I will pay full price for it.

I went to Kohl's at about 6 AM, only because my 15 y-o wanted to go because I had planned to stay home this year.

I read about this in the Chronicle. I'm shocked. Why didn't the store control how many people entered the store at at time? Why didn't they close the store after this happened? It's absolutely ridiculous! How can people just trample someone and not even stop? And what is a pregnant woman doing in a crowd like that to begin with?

Are we humans really so stupid?

I read this same story today in our paper. Unbelievable! My husband had to work Friday at 6am and I had no desire to take all three kids shopping by myself!
Take care,
Julie

Isn't that sad...that sounds like that would happen in a few of our Walmarts. The worse thing that happened to me was this lady kept cramming her cart into my butt. I finally turned around to her, smiled real big and said, "I've got a pretty serious booty and it can do damage so you may want to save your cart." She just smiled and backed off. I kinda felt bad afterward, but at least she stopped (and saved my ankles!).

This was a horrible tragedy that should have been, could have been, avoided. Great post.

I hate that this kind of things happens. And it happens somewhere every.single.year. Heartbreaking.

I don't mind shopping on Black Friday, but there is no way I'm getting up early and fighting for items. I'll just go and if I get a good deal, great! Now, my hubby left the house at 4 am this year and scored some good deals - he came with with a whole lotta clothes for himself and a new tv (for the family, so he says - we all know it's really for him :))
