This week's Ten on Tuesday list was tough for me......I don't really feel like I have made great "accomplishments" in my life - except for my kids. Those three kids are the greatest things that I have done in my life. I didn't graduate from college, I don't have a high-powered career, I haven't battled any major diseases (altho I watched my mother do it), I haven't changed the world in any big way. But I have raised a son to be a fine young man, and am raising a daughter and another son that amaze me every day with their wonderfulness. So if that is my only legacy - to be their mother and to have helped shape them into who they are - then that is the greatest legacy of all.
So here are some other things I have done that, to me, are pretty neat accomplishments:
1. Trained and danced with a professional ballet company
2. Found the courage to leave an abusive ex-husband
3. Overcame fear and rode all the roller coasters at Disney World
4. Won a bowling tournament
5. Went from renting a home to owning one
6. Survived the Hurricane Rita evacuation without going crazy and killing someone
7. Became a dance teacher so I can give children the gift of dance (see a small success story here)
8. Ended unhealthy relationships and cultivated new, healthy ones
9. Supported my husband thru difficult times
10. Swam with stingrays in Grand Cayman

Not earth shattering stuff huh? I see it a little different, but then again, isn't that the way--we never see our own feats quite as clearly. That abuse ex thing--now that's powerful to me. I had a very abusive ex-boyfriend and that was tough enough, I cannot IMAGINE having the courage to leave an abusive husband. I hope your week is filled with abundance, my new blog friend.
PS--I never finished college either! I may still, I just don't know what I wanna be when I grow up. xo
BS, I think all of those things are great accomplishments! I could never do most of them.
Wow, that's quite a list!! It's funny that we don't recognize our own accomplishments - especially if they don't perfectly fit the categories that society values (the college thing, high powered career). You've probably touched more lives than you'll ever know.
Whilst reading the first paragraph, I was thinking of #2. That is a great accomplishment. Especially since without having achieved that, you never would have had the opportunity to raise these three chil'rens or #9.
Yes, perhaps it should be noted that none of my beautiful children are products of my first, bad marriage - and had I not gotten away from it, I might not even be alive today. So OK, #2 is a pretty great accomplishment...
Way to go! Especially for #2.
Yea for the list! Don't minimize them. They're all fantastic. Give yourself some credit, Sista!
You've been a good sister who was always there for me. That counts.
Well I don't know any prostitutes who work in their PJ's--hmmm...I'm not even sure I know any at all, LOL!! I'm in my pjs as I type, working and blogging....very high-powered job I have! xoxo
I got to thinking I should clarify I'm talking about something on my post--I don't want anyone to get the idea I am calling you a prostitute, lol!
Yeah, I intentionally left "becoming independently wealthy by being a high-dollar prostitute" OFF my list, Stacey. Thanx for outting me. ;-)
Bubba - I love you.
What would you list in an essay on greatest accomplishments? For instance, you can always choose writing an essay on greatest accomplishments as the reference! It's not even so hard!
